Considering the relatively brief time since the introduction of the Segway Navimow they have somewhat taken the market by storm. Their mowers incorporate innovative technology including VSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localisation And Mapping) that uses camera technology to assists with the mower’s navigation and obstacle avoidance. This technology also enables the mower to continue working within areas with poor satellite coverage.
The latest X series of mowers (due to be released in March) even has an optional line trimmer unit that can be attached to the side of the mower that allows close to edge trimming.
We have been impressed with many features and benefits the Segway's offer and feel they are one of the few mowers packages that can be purchased and installed by the customer. The App is one of the best we have seen, and this is backed up by the awards it has won. The App talks the user through the whole installation and setup process and is backed up with 20/7 online support.
Correct locations for the docking station and reference station are critical elements to consider when installing an RTK mower. This process is made much easier thanks to an App feature that allows the mower to be driven around the garden to produce a colour coded map showing the best areas of satellite coverage.
This brings us onto the next point, the Navimow can virtually install itself by using the camera to drive itself around the garden perimeter, it is able to do this by recognising the difference between lawn edges, borders, and paths etc. For good levels of accuracy we would always recommend carrying out a manual installation. This is achieved by using the App to drive the mower around the garden perimeters and borders to create the map/s.
We have found the manual mapping process of the Navimow to be one of the easiest thanks to the precise control that can be achieved while driving the mower around the garden using the App. If you make a mistake during the mapping process, don’t worry, just press the erase button on the App, this will then allow the mower to reverse until you reach a convenient point from where you would like to continue the map. Once you reach this point just release the erase button and continue with the mapping process.
Modifications to existing maps is also a straightforward process and can be achieved without having to carry out a total remap of an affected area.
Considering the amount of technology incorporated within the Navimow range of mowers they offer excellent value for money. As an example the 105i can cover garden areas up to 500m2 and is supplied with everything needed to get the mower up and running for a cost of £949.00. Whats not to like?
